So about three and a half weeks ago, my Dad and Debbie came down to meet Owen and visit with Avery. They drove in late Thursday night and spent the weekend with us, heading home on Sunday.
Friday the 5th was their anniversary, so we went out to dinner to celebrate it along with my impending birthday (it was on the 16th). Though it's not the most upscale place to go, we decided that some good Southern fare from Mary Mac's Tea Room sounded best. It was a pretty successful meal, I must say. Avery stayed in her high chair and Owen stayed asleep. I honestly couldn't ask for more.
The remainder of their trip, we stayed at home, visiting. Owen was a lug of love, just sleeping in everyone's arms, though he did seem to enjoy just quietly being with my Dad. And Avery loved playing with both her grandparents. She had my Dad playing playdough with her immediately, and wasted no time in soliciting him to carry her books into the kitchen in order to make her "bridge" (photo below to demonstrate). With Grandma Deb, the highlight for Avery was helping her wash the dishes and "baking" apple pies with sand from the sand and water table.
It was a really nice visit, and we certainly wish we could do it more often. Thanks for making the long drive, you guys (especially with all the extra stops you had to make to accommodate those new knees, Dad)!
